Warehouse Employee Training for Inland Empire Employers

Quick answer: Warehouse employee training from The Ayangbah Foundation helps Inland Empire employers turn strong floor associates into leads, dispatchers and inventory staff. We teach Excel, workplace communication and soft skills, live online or in downtown San Bernardino, and we can run a pre-employment pipeline for new hires. Forklift and OSHA 10 certifications are coming in 2027.

Ask any distribution center manager in Ontario, Fontana or Rialto what keeps them up at night, and you'll hear the same two answers. Turnover on the floor, and not enough people ready to step up when a lead or clerk position opens. Most of your associates already know how to hit a rate. What they often lack is comfort with a spreadsheet, a clear way to talk to a team, and the confidence to run a shift. Those skills can be taught in weeks, not years.

Why Warehouse Employee Training Matters in the Inland Empire

Logistics is the backbone of the local job market, and the employer lists prove it:

  • Ontario: Ontario International Airport, UPS and Workforce Personnel, Inc. each employ between 5,000 and 9,999 people, and FedEx ranks in the city's top ten (City of Ontario 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report).
  • Fontana: Amazon employs 3,145 people, and Walmart's distribution operation, Saia and Legendary Staffing are among the top ten employers (City of Fontana 2023 financial report).
  • Rialto: distribution centers for Amazon, Staples, Target, Medline, Niagara Bottling and Monster Energy line the north end of the city (Wikipedia). Only 12.6% of adults hold a bachelor's degree (U.S. Census QuickFacts).
  • Chino: a Walmart Fulfillment Center, FedEx Ground, Amazon and KeHe Distributors are on the city's list of largest employers (Champion Newspapers, 2024).
  • Victorville: the City estimates about 60% of goods moving into and out of Southern California flow through the Victorville region, and more than six million square feet of industrial development has been approved at Foxborough (City of Victorville, "Why Victorville" and FY 2023–24 ACFR).
  • Moreno Valley: Amazon, Ross Dress for Less, Harbor Freight Tools and Procter & Gamble are among the largest employers (City of Moreno Valley 2024 ACFR).
  • Redlands: the Amazon fulfillment center employs 526 people (City of Redlands 2025 ACFR).

The education numbers matter too. In Victorville, 12.8% of adults hold a bachelor's degree; in Fontana, 21.4% (U.S. Census QuickFacts, ACS 2020–2024). Most of your future leads won't come from a four-year program. They're already on your floor.

From the Floor to the Office: Skills Your Next Leads Need

The jump from associate to lead, dispatcher or inventory clerk is mostly about three things.

1. Spreadsheets and data

Cycle counts, labor plans, carrier schedules and exception reports all live in Excel. Our 12-hour Microsoft Excel & Office Essentials course ($297) covers formulas, sorting and filtering, simple charts, and the email and document habits that office roles expect.

2. Communication

A good lead explains a change at a start-of-shift huddle, writes a clear handoff note, and talks to an upset driver without making things worse. Our Public Speaking & Communication Lab builds those skills through practice, not lectures.

3. Soft skills and professionalism

Our 40-hour Career Readiness & Entrepreneurship Employment Training certificate (4 weeks, $1,200) covers workplace expectations, problem solving, teamwork and time management. It works for current staff you want to promote and for new hires who need a strong start. For more on this, read our guide to soft skills training for frontline teams.

How Warehouse Employee Training Can Reduce Turnover

People are more likely to stay where they can see a future. When associates know there is a real path to a lead or office role, and that their employer will help them get there, the job stops feeling like a dead end. Training also helps new supervisors avoid the mistakes that push good people out the door, like unclear instructions or poor handling of conflict.

We can't promise a specific drop in your turnover rate, and we won't invent one. But we can help you build a promotion ladder that your team can actually climb. Our article on reducing employee turnover through training goes deeper.

A Pre-Employment Pipeline for New Hires

The Ayangbah Foundation is an approved work-experience worksite for the San Bernardino County Workforce Development Department, and we have hosted and mentored 10 interns so far. Our pre-employment and job readiness training prepares candidates before they reach your door: resumes, interviews, attendance habits and workplace expectations. We also work with second-chance and reentry participants who want a fresh start and are ready to work.

Forklift and OSHA 10 are coming in 2027

Industry certifications, including Forklift, OSHA 10 and CPR/First Aid, are planned for 2027. They are not available yet. Employers can join our interest list now to hear first when cohorts open.

Flexible Scheduling for Shift Workers

Every class is offered in person in downtown San Bernardino and live online, with day, evening and Saturday options. That means a swing-shift associate in Fontana or a night-shift clerk in Victorville can train without missing work. We can also discuss a customized or incumbent worker cohort built around your schedule. Learn more about incumbent worker training.

Public training funds may be available for some employers and workers through programs like WIOA, On-the-Job Training or ETP, but eligibility varies and nothing is guaranteed. Our ETPL application is in progress. We're happy to help you explore options.
