OSHA 10 Training: Who Needs It and How to Get It

OSHA 10 is a 10-hour safety training course that teaches workers how to spot and avoid common job hazards. It is often requested for construction, warehouse, manufacturing and other hands-on jobs. Our OSHA 10-Hour course is launching in 2027, taught by certified partner instructors; interest list open now. Meanwhile, our Career Readiness class can help you get job-ready today.

If a job posting says "OSHA 10 preferred," this guide explains what that means and how to prepare.

What OSHA 10 covers

OSHA 10 is an entry-level safety awareness course. It is not about becoming a safety inspector. It is about knowing your rights and staying safe at work.

  • Worker rights and how to report hazards
  • Common hazards such as falls, electrical risks and being struck by objects
  • Personal protective equipment, like hard hats, gloves and eye protection
  • Safe handling of materials and equipment
  • How to recognize and respond to unsafe situations

There are different versions for construction and for general industry. Pick the one that matches the work you want.

Who needs OSHA 10 training

  • Construction laborers, helpers and apprentices
  • Warehouse and distribution workers
  • Manufacturing and production workers
  • Maintenance and facilities staff
  • Anyone entering a hands-on job where safety matters

Some employers and job sites require it. Others simply prefer it. Either way, it shows you take safety seriously, which is something every employer wants.

Why OSHA 10 helps your job search

When two applicants look similar, safety training can tip the scale. It tells a hiring manager you will need less basic training and that you understand the rules of a work site.

It also helps you protect yourself. Knowing how to spot a hazard can prevent an injury that keeps you out of work.

How to get OSHA 10 training

  1. Decide whether you need the construction or general industry version.
  2. Choose a provider with an authorized trainer.
