Quick answer: To apply for WIOA in San Bernardino County, create a free CalJOBS account at caljobs.ca.gov, then contact your nearest America's Job Center of California (AJCC). A career advisor will check your eligibility, build an Individual Employment Plan with you, and help you find funding for approved training. San Bernardino County has three AJCCs: San Bernardino, Victorville and Rancho Cucamonga.
Step 1: Create your CalJOBS account
CalJOBS is California's free online job and training system. Go to caljobs.ca.gov, create an account and complete your profile. CalJOBS helps you explore careers, search jobs and find training. If you need help, the CalJOBS phone line is 800-451-5627.
At The Ayangbah Foundation, our intake staff help students register in CalJOBS as part of enrollment.
Step 2: Contact your nearest America's Job Center
San Bernardino County Workforce Development runs three AJCCs, open Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm:
East Valley AJCC: 500 Inland Center Drive, Sp. 508 (Inland Center Mall, Parking Lot 16), San Bernardino, CA 92408. Phone 909-382-0440.
High Desert AJCC: 17310 Bear Valley Road, Suite 109, Victorville, CA 92395. Phone 760-552-6550.
West Valley AJCC: 9650 9th Street, Suite A, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730. Phone 909-941-6500.
Step 3: Meet with a career advisor
A career advisor reviews your situation, confirms which WIOA program fits (Adult, Dislocated Worker or Youth), and works with you on an Individual Employment Plan. Advisors can also refer you to vocational training and help with training funding.
Step 4: Gather your documents
Your AJCC tells you exactly what to bring. Applicants are commonly asked for proof of identity, proof of eligibility to work in the U.S., and, depending on the program, proof of income, layoff or public assistance. Use our WIOA eligibility checklist for California to get ready.
Step 5: Choose an approved training program
WIOA training funds go to programs on the state's Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL). Ask your advisor which programs on the list fit your career goal.
About The Ayangbah Foundation: our 40-hour Career Readiness & Entrepreneurship certificate was built for the WIOA ETPL, and our application is in progress. We are also an approved work-experience worksite with San Bernardino County Workforce Development. Until our listing is approved, we can still help you check eligibility, register in CalJOBS and plan your path.
Who gets priority for WIOA Adult services?
Under federal rules, WIOA Adult funds for individualized career and training services go first to people receiving public assistance, other low-income individuals, and people who are basic skills deficient. Veterans receive priority of service in all U.S. Department of Labor employment programs. Laid-off workers may qualify through the Dislocated Worker program.
