Quick answer: The Ayangbah Foundation offers healthcare front office training for Inland Empire hospitals, clinics and health plans. We train patient access, scheduling, member services and front-desk staff in customer service, communication, Excel and professional skills. We do not offer clinical training. Classes run live online or in downtown San Bernardino, on day, evening and Saturday schedules.
A patient's first impression of your hospital or clinic usually isn't a doctor. It's the person at the front desk, on the phone or at the registration window. When that person is calm, accurate and kind, everything after goes more smoothly. When they're overwhelmed, patients notice, and so do your clinical teams.
Let's Be Clear: No Clinical Training
We want to be upfront. The Ayangbah Foundation does not teach clinical skills. We don't train medical assistants, nurses, phlebotomists, coders or any role that requires a clinical license or certification. We focus only on the administrative and people side of healthcare work: patient access, scheduling, reception, member services, office coordination and customer service.
Healthcare Is the Inland Empire's Biggest Employer
Few industries in the region hire on this scale:
- Loma Linda: Loma Linda University and Medical Center has over 11,838 employees, and the Jerry L. Pettis Memorial Veterans Medical Center is also based in the city (City of Loma Linda ACFR, FY 2023).
- Fontana: Kaiser Permanente is the city's top employer with 9,677 workers, and Saint Bernardine Medical Center employs 1,775 (City of Fontana 2023 financial report).
- Colton: Arrowhead Regional Medical Center is the city's largest employer, with 3,510 workers (City of Colton 2021 ACFR).
- Rancho Cucamonga: Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) is the largest employer, with 3,511 employees (City of Rancho Cucamonga 2023 ACFR).
- Upland: San Antonio Regional Hospital is the top employer, with about 2,000 employees (City of Upland 2025 ACFR).
- Redlands: Redlands Community Hospital employs 1,847 people and Optum/Beaver Medical Group employs 1,000 (City of Redlands 2025 ACFR).
- Apple Valley: St. Mary Regional Medical Center employs 1,301 people (Town of Apple Valley 2020 CAFR).
Every one of these employers needs front-office and patient-facing staff who can handle volume, technology and emotion at the same time.
What Our Healthcare Front Office Training Covers
Customer service and patient communication
Patients are often scared, in pain or frustrated about a bill. Our Public Speaking & Communication Lab helps staff speak clearly, listen fully, stay calm with upset callers, and explain next steps in plain language. These skills also help staff work better with nurses, providers and billing teams.
Excel and office software
Schedules, referral logs, call reports and supply lists often live in spreadsheets. Our 12-hour Microsoft Excel & Office Essentials course ($297) covers formulas, sorting, filtering and clean formatting, plus professional email and document skills.
Professionalism and soft skills
Our 40-hour Career Readiness & Entrepreneurship Employment Training certificate (4 weeks, $1,200) covers reliability, teamwork, time management, problem solving and workplace expectations. It's a strong foundation for new hires in patient access, reception or member services.

Why Healthcare Front Office Training Pays Off
Front-office errors are expensive. A wrong insurance entry, a missed callback or a rude exchange can lead to denied claims, no-shows and complaints. Training won't fix every problem, but staff who know how to communicate and stay organized make fewer of them. And when you invest in your team, they're more likely to see a future with you. See our article on reducing turnover through training.
Training funds may be available through public workforce programs for some employers and workers, but eligibility varies. Our ETPL application is in progress. We'll help you look at your options without promising any specific funding.
